The telephone devotions have a birthday!
The devotions, which are each between 2 and 4 minutes long, were 'born' out of necessity.
With the outbreak of the Corona pandemic, the municipality of Altona has thought about what it can do for the older members of the community to break up their isolation at least a little.
Within three days, the idea was born to 'provide at least short devotions so that the brothers and sisters are encouraged in everyday life'.
On the fourth day, the first devotion was online. After three months, the devotions were made available via a platform, so that there was no longer any need to call a mobile phone number.
Since then, the devotions, at the beginning of which the doctrinal text of the Herrenhut slogans is usually read, can be heard on the Hamburg telephone number 040 524 70 357.
A pastor of the Christuskirche always records 12 devotions at the beginning of a month. These are stored on an answering machine on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
In the meantime, more than 1800 devotions have been recorded and listened to by an average of 15 people/day.
The devotions are kept short and concise, may not always correspond to a 100% theologically watertight interpretation, but are at least an attempt to pass on encouraging things from the Christian faith into the everyday life of older people.
The telephone devotions have become an integral part of the congregation's work. They will continue in the future.
